Superficial phlebitis of the thoracoepigastric vein, which runs from axilla to lateral edge of breast to subareola area to epigastrium; may occur after any breast surgery, trauma, or radiation. Treatment is usually close observation after negative mammography and breast examination is obtained to rule out breast cancer.
