Variant of Villaret syndrome without accompanying Horner syndrome; due to lesion (e.g., infection, tumor, trauma, adenopathies) in retropharyngeal space, resulting in ipsilateral paralysis of CN IX-XII. Condition also leads to inability to swallow, anesthesia of posterior tongue, trapezius and sternocleidomastoid paralysis, and hemiatrophy of tongue.
