Ladan Eshkevari and colleagues at Georgetown University recently published a study showing that electroacupuncture in a rat model decreased stress-induced neuropeptide Y (NPY), even when the treatment was given for a relatively short period of time.
The physiological effects of the acupuncture treated group as opposed to the stress only and sham acupuncture groups included decreased NPY in the paraventricular nucleus levels and plasma levels as well as the paraventricular nucleus receptors of NPY.
