The World Health Organization has added a new histological classification of pleural mesothelioma. In addition to the three classifications that have been used for decades (sarcomatoid, biphasic, and epithelioid) by doctors, patients, and lawyers, a fourth category of mesothelioma-in-situ is now recognized. This new classification will be used to better understand prognosis and to develop more advanced chemotherapy and treatment trials.
