Familial amyloid polyneuropathy found most commonly in persons of Portuguese descent; marked by abnormal transthyretin with methionine substituted for valine at position 30 of prealbumin molecule. Amyloid deposits occur in spinal nerve roots, autonomic ganglia, and peripheral nerves.
