The non-profit Medical Education and Research Institute in Memphis, Tennessee accepts about 650 bodies a year donated by loved ones that are used to train surgeons and other medical personnel. Originally started as a joint effort between Baptist Memorial, Methodist Le Bonheur, and Semmes-Murphey Neurologic and Spine Institute, MERI is now managed by Diana Kelly, who makes sure the cadavers are treated with the utmost respect.
