Experts Worry That Upcoming “Pay For Performance” Guidelines Will Backfire For Less Wealthy Patients and Hospitals

Dr. Jan Blustein and colleagues at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service at New York University has published a report showing that the upcoming 2012 implementation of the “pay for performance” model to be initiated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) may actually worsen care for hospitals and patients who are economically disadvantaged.
