Florida Hand Surgeon Fined and Suspended For Wrong-Site Surgery
The Florida Board of Medicine has fined Dr. Mary Ellen Beatty $20,000 (the largest penalty allowable) and suspended her medical license for one year for operating on the wrong hand and wrong finger on her patient. It is the third such incident by Beatty in the last five years. Beatty is a founding member of the Florida Orthopaedic Institute. Apprarently, she has no plans to stop operating once her suspension has been served.
Common Drug Stops and Reverses Tissue Damage in Marfan Syndrome in Mice
Researchers at Johns Hopkins Hospital reported striking findings in mice of the effect of the already available anti-hypertensive drug losartan (Cozaar) in stopping and even reversing the abnormal tissue that develops in Marfan syndrome.
