Renowned Sports Medicine Surgeon Goes Under the Knife<\/strong><\/p>\n

World famous orthopedic surgeon James Andrews has undergone an unspecified heart surgery today at Saint Vincents Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. Andrews, who has treated hundreds of top sports stars, is reportedly doing well and is expected to return to work in “a couple of weeks.”<\/p>\n

New Spinal Surgery Technique Being Developed<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dr. Christopher Ames, a neurosurgeon at the University of California, San Francisco medical center is developing a new technique to operate on and remove spinal tumors in the cervical spine area that were once thought to be inoperable.<\/p>\n

The technique, called the lateral paramedian transpedicular approach, uses innovations from the UCSF Spinal Biomechanics and Spinal Neuronavigation Laboratory along with standard spine surgery techniques to remove the tumors.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
