Used to detect mercury, arsenic, tellurium, antimony, some sulfur compounds, and bismuth. If copper foil is inserted into hydrochloric acid-urine solution, heated, and a gray, shiny film forms on foil, mercury is present; if gray deposit forms, arsenic or other substances are present.
