Lower abdominal wall incision widely used in obstetric and gynecologic surgery; involves transverse skin and fascia incisions with blunt dissection between rectus muscles and lateral retraction to obtain access to peritoneal cavity. Approach provides excellent cosmetic results but somewhat limited exposure and is not indicated in surgeries with known gynecologic malignancies.
