Radiologic patient positioning technique used to provide optimal views of the sphenoid strut (inferior root of the lesser wing of the sphenoid bone). The patient is placed in a prone position on the table with the eye socket centered on the plate and the head rotated 20 degrees toward the side being examined. The central ray is angled at 20 degrees caudad to view the optic foramen and anterior clinoid process and 30 degrees caudad to view the superior orbital fissure.
