Syphilitic infiltration of aorta causing aortic aneurysm, aortic insufficiency, and coronary artery ostial stenosis; associated with Òbell-likeÓ or Òtambour-likeÓ auscultation. Condition is clinically symptomatic in untreated or undertreated cases (more common in men) in 5%Ð10% of patients, usu. 10Ð25 years postinfection. Treatment is antibiotics and, if needed, surgery.
