ÒLooseÓ temporomandibular joint due to resorption or degeneration of joint tissues; marked by earache, tinnitus, decreased hearing, dizziness, and nystagmus. Condition is sometimes associated with herpes appearing in external ear canal. Some controversy exists regarding diagnosis; many oral and head and neck surgeons are unconvinced of the temporomandibular joint etiology. Treatment is dental/oral surgery or injection of corticosteroids.
