Describes traction avulsion amputations of the arm. Type 1, at level of musculotendinous aponeurosis with muscles largely intact; type 2, within muscle bellies but with intact innervation to proximal muscle fibers; type 3, involving motor innervation with consequent total loss of muscle function; type 4, disarticulation at elbow or shoulder joint.
