If I was thinking about going to medical school again I would review these MCAT prep general strategies before I started studying.
With Winning in Mind
This book by Lanny Bassham is a must read for anyone who is undertaking any high performance activity. Lanny runs a clinic for high-end performers in Texas where he lays out his performance philosophies and strategies for achieving maximum goals. He does a great job of summarizing his tenets in this book. Somewhat surprisingly and counter to conventional coaching, he does recommends that performers concentrate largely on positive results.
Using his philosophy, I would not recommend someone preparing for the MCAT to take an initial practice test. Why cement in your subconscious that you did poorly on the exam? You want to do an inner dialogue only on your wins.
Atomic Habits
This book by James Clear is a personal favorite. The book describes very effective techniques and protocols to build good (study) habits and discard counterproductive ones. He describes how the coach of the UK cycling team went from perennial also rans to top-ranked team in just a few years. Get this book and read it!
