Alligator blood is being studied by Dr. Mark Merchant and others at McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana for its powerful natural immunity against bacteria and fungi. His team has done research showing that naturally occurrring proteins in alligator blood are effective in vitro in killing E. coli, Salmonella, Staphylococcus, and Streptococcus as well as at least one strain of HIV.
