A report in the online journal Eurosurveillance is detailing the worrisome reappearance of malaria in some southern sections of Greece. The disease, which is marked by fever and chills and can be fatal, was officially “eradicated” in 1974 but was reintroduced in the country by poor immigrants from Africa and Asia and officials are worried that the recent austerity measures adopted by the country will cut public health services needed to combat the illness.
