A hydrocele is a collection of serous fluid that accumulates in a persistent processus vaginalis.
Hydroceles can be located anatomically in the scrotum or spermatic cord. They are generally painless (even if quite large) which distinguishes them from hematoceles, which often are associated with discomfort.
