Pancreatitis very often involves splenic sequelae and subcapsular hematoma occurs not uncommonly. Although the finding and severity of a subcapsular spleen hematoma on CT scan can be alarming, initial nonoperative management is generally recommended. Bleeding requiring operation occurs in only 10% – 15% of cases and outcomes are generally poor because of the underlying pancreas pathology.
