Percutaneous cholecystostomy is the treatment of choice for acalculous cholecystitis in patients who are too ill to be taken to the operating room or to undergo general anesthesia.
The procedure involves placing a drainage tube into the gallbladder to drain the gallbladder. It can be performed under local anesthesia at the bedside if need be.
