Patients that have watery discharge from the nose several hours after significant head trauma (e.g., head striking the windshield or dashboard in a motor vehicle accident) is likely secondary to a cribiform plate fracture. The initial management of this is raising the head of the bed to 30 degrees if no contraindications exist such as spine fractures.
