A new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association suggests that prophylactic mastectomy and or ovariectomy confers a significant survival advantage in women with the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genetic mutations that predispose them to developing breast and ovarian cancer. The senior author was Dr. Timonthy Rebbeck of the University of Pennsylvania.
