Acutely ACL injuries can be overcome with time and rehab, although due to the lack of blood supply to the ligament it can never “heal” primarily.
The real problem with ACL injuries in young active individuals is the long term risk of osteoarthritis and meniscal injury, which is why orthopaedic surgeons usually recommend early reconstruction in young people.
