Scientist Reports “Suspended Animation” Saves Worms From Death

Biologist Mark Roth and colleagues has published a paper in the journal Molecular Biology of Cell that shows that placing worms and yeast cells in suspended animation by using nitric oxide to drain oxygen from their cells improves survival of the organism to 99% after severe cooling. Roth is affiliated with the Fred Hutchinson Research Center in Seattle, Washington.
