Restricting Resident Work Hours Does Not Lessen Mortality or Improve Care
Not surprising to older physicians that supervise today’s training medical and surgical residents is a new study coming out this week shows that restricting resident work hours does not improve patient care. This is possibly due to the effects of more frequent signouts, the use of a night float system where one resident is responsible for dozens of patients that they do not fully know, and the development of a “shift” mentality.
