Procedure for proximal release of quadriceps muscle, esp. in leg contractures of infancy and childhood; involves curved incision along base of greater trochanter and longitudinally down thigh. Tensor fasciae lata and vastus lateralis are severed, vastus lateralis is released along its origin, and vastus inter-medius is elevated off femoral surface. Ambulation is possible at 4 weeks.
