Deficiency of hexosaminidase A and B, causing accumulation of GM2 gangliosides in lysosomes. Disorder is characterized by loss of motor skills, macular cherry-red spot, organomegaly, and bony changes; condition is autosomal recessive. Age of onset is 6 months-6 years. Screening test is skin, conjunctival, or rectal biopsy.
