Relatively rare, degenerative loss of frontal and anterior temporal neurons causing significant dementia in latter stages. Affected neurons are marked by presence of Pick bodies and assume swollen, balloon-like morphology. Initial symptoms are typically personality changes such as apathy or disregard of social decorum. Disorder is commonly misdiagnosed as Alzheimer disease.
