Used to detect hip arthritis. Positive outcome occurs if supine patient places ankle to opposite knee; flexed knee is depressed; and pain, decreased range of motion, or hip spasm results. Sacroiliac pathology is likely if sudden pressure on contralat-eral hip or abducting flexed hip causes back pain.
