Surgical method for treatment of cataracts; 1st reported (1967) cases of removal of crystalline lens through small incision. Technique involves nucleus subluxation followed by anterior chamber emulsion of nucleus. Procedure permits cataract extraction on outpatient basis and with no physical restrictions postop; most eye surgeons today use 1 of several modifications.
