Jewett-Whitmore classification
System used to define prostate cancer. Stage A—non-palpable cancer; stage A1, < 5% of tissue and Gleason grade > 7; stage A2, > 5% of tissues or Gleason grade > 7; stage B—palpable nodule; stage B1, palpable nodule < 1.5 cm in diameter; stage B2, palpable nodule > 1.5 cm in diameter; stage C—extension beyond prostatic capsule without distant metastases; stage D—metastases; stage D1, metastases to regional lymph nodes; stage D2, metastases to bone or viscera.
