Surgical procedure for constructing a retroperitoneal ileostomy. After a superficial abdominal wall opening is made in the standard fashion, the lateral peritoneum is free and the ileum is then brought through this tunnel to its exit on the skin. The peritoneum must be sutured to both the serosal surface of the bowel and to the mesentery.
