Rare deficiency of platelets caused by abnormal fibrinogen receptor; defect is in GPIIb-IIIa. Condition is autosomal recessive and marked by prolonged bleeding time, failure of platelet aggregation, and defective clot retraction. Clinical features are chronic mucocutaneous hemorrhages, gingival bleeding, GI bleeding, and menorrhagia. Total platelet counts are normal.
