Progressive RBC aplasia manifesting in 1st year of life; also with chronic erythroid hypoplasia and mildly abnormal WBC and platelet counts. Clinical features include variable hepatosplenomegaly, short stature, webbed neck, thumb defects, and mental retardation; often incorrectly classifed as type of aplastic anemia. Treatment is corticosteroids and multiple blood transfusions.
