Degeneration of olivary nucleus, ventral pons, middle cerebellar peduncles, or cerebellar cortex; causes a variety of clinical presentations resembling Parkinson disease (e.g., tremors, ataxia, speech impairment). Onset is in middle age with progression to total incapacitation within 10 years.
