Condition leading to bilateral adrenal hyperplasia and Cushing syndrome symptoms; clinical features (incidence) include obesity (94%), facial plethora (84%), hirsutism (82%), menstrual disorders (76%), hypertension (72%), muscle weakness (58%), back pain (58%), and striae (52%). Cause is hypersecretion of ACTH from pituitary source (usu. adenoma identified in 60%Ð70% of cases). Treatment is transsphenoidal resection of tumor with adjunctive radiation and medical therapy.
