Technique used to detect positional vertigo, specifically to distinguish peripheral positional nystagmus vs. central positional nystagmus. Patient sits close to the end of the table, turning head 45 degrees to one side. The examiner quickly places the patient in the reclining position while supporting the head and shoulder, with turned head hanging over the table edge for 30 seconds. Patient reports any symptoms and examiner notes the presence and timing of nystagmus.
