The Puestow procedure is an infrequently performed procedure that is used to relieve the pain associated with chronic pancreatitis.
It involves a lateral pancreaticojejunostomy that is fashioned as long as possible, optimally from the tail to the pancreatic head.
A relative indication for the procedure is that the pancreatic duct must be dilated greater than 1.0 cm in diameter for successful palliation of pain, which occurs in about 60% of cases.
